I am so humbled by the beauty that God gives in this world!  Brought to my knees, brought to the depth seeing His care for us in these gifts of nature and wonder in His handiwork.   I am so blessed to have a husband who allows this crazy wife of his to tromp off to places unknown with her dog at daybreak and run to catch the sunrise uphill through a sand dune!

This was one time I gladly allowed Tye to tug on the rope to help me uphill!
I was rewarded with this: beauty in the sky and in the rocks surrounding me! *
We arrived yesterday afternoon in Valley of the Fire State Park, Nevada's first state park and what a jewel in the desert!  It is spring everywhere here and so many desert flowers I have never seen!
We camped in the Atatl Campground but did not climb to see the Petroglyphs nearby.  We camped right up against a huge red rock which provided much needed morning shade.  Soon, I was watching the birds and listening to the cheep cheep of babies somewhere near when Steve said, "That bird just disappeared inside that rock!" Sure enough there was the tiniest of crevices and it made aplace for a safe haven, a cleft in the rock.  I am so reminded that the Lord keeps us safe in the cleft, surrounded by His desire for love and relationship, holding us fast and firm.  Check out this picture for a tiny bit of dry grass, the nest is behind that out of sight.

A quick trip to the visitor center found a helpful ranger who gave us a heads up on what we could do as the sun was setting.   We drove back to camp for supper before heading up the road to see the sights.

Fire Canyon Road...whew, we could really see why it was named that! We got some great shots of the Strawberry Hedgehog cactus in bloom.

Such lovely colors in these rocks!
Our next stop was Valley of Fire Canyon and a big white clay dome.

I took Tye for a 10 minute walk and was rewarded with this amazing colorful rock

Here we are as we left Valley of Fire State Park this morning April 9, 2014.  Next stop Leeds Utah to visit family for a few days.   I will write up two more separate blogs on my two hikes this morning arriving at the first hike at 6am.  I'm so thankful I did...whew, it is 80 degrees by 11 am.
